Color Cues

2 of 7

Mixing elements and styles is key to a transitional look—try a new combination of materials or highly contrasting textures. For overall color, Vermont architect Sandra Vitzthum suggests using white as a base: “It can easily be mixed with lighter or darker materials and finishes." Introduce splashes of color with materials such as a Verde marble countertop. Don't be afraid to inject a bit of whimsy, either: A chalkboard pantry door offers a fresh look, as well as a practical place to leave notes for family.

I love this kitchen, would love to duplicate the look in mine. Alas, mine existing space is just too small, but I am going to incorporate some of the ideas such as the island, just on a smaller scale.
