While water is one of the most abundant resources on Earth, it's also one of the most scarce. A whopping 97 percent of the water on this planet is in the ocean and another two percent sits frozen in the polar ice caps, leaving the remaining one percent—one percent!—for us to drink. And here in the United States, we consume more water per person than any other country (the average American uses more water per day than someone in Brazil, Germany, Honduras and the United Kingdom combined), which means that conserving water here in the U.S. is more important than ever. It's no surprise that the best place to focus our water-saving efforts is in our own homes. Here, we share five smart ideas to cut down on water consumption in the kitchen.
