There's no denying that spacious kitchens are fabulous. But if your reality is a kitchen where the refrigerator and oven doors can't be open at the same time and you frequently have to use the breakfast table for prep space, then you know just how cramped a small kitchen can feel. The good news? By avoiding a few common design foibles, you can make your tiny kitchen feel just as generous as the wide-open kitchen you're currently coveting.

Your articles would be much more helpful if some room dimensions were provided. A layout diagram would also be helpful.
By the way, It is very helpful for people with back or knee problems or needing wheelchair access, to install the dishwasher off the floor. In my last kitchen, I installed a 15" wide cabinet sideways on the floor, under the dishwasher. The lower cabinet was great for storing large baking tins & other bulky, seldom-used items. When I opened the dishwasher, I could load and unload it without bending over at all. We stopped arguing over whose turn it was to deal with the dishwasher. My microwave was installed over the dishwasher, also very convenient - at eye level.

I have a very small kitchen and glass fronted cabinets are fine. I think open shelves are silly and collect dust. They are just one of those trends that will fade in time. And what's with those cabinets that are 8 ft. off the floor? One would need a real ladder, not just a kitchen stepstool to reach them.

Last set of letters was from a problem with my mouse!

Why not a combination of cabinet fronts? There are just some things that need behind solid doors and depends on your space. I would also advise getting the tallest cabinets, to the ceiling, to bring the eye upward. The doors create a vertical line. If possible, have adjustable shelving in the cabinets. I also like a cabinet next to the frig and dislike double ovens next to the frig. I like an upper cabinet for glassware storage and a countertop for placing those glasses on the counter when getting beverages from the frig. This is my personal preference.

I agree about not having double ovens or any wall ovens next to the fridge. I thought that was supposed to be bad for the fridge. It doesn't seem efficient, either.
