When “Grey’s Anatomy” actress Jessica Capshaw and her husband Christopher Gavigan decided to remodel their California guest house, they wanted to make sure it could double as a family space/play area for their two young kids. Cambria was just what the doctor ordered. Clean, simple and safe was the design mantra as you can see from the kitchenette.
Cambria is 93% natural quartz, nonporous so it doesn’t harbor bacteria, twice as strong as granite and radon-free. All of those benefits appealed to Jessica and Chris, who have designed every inch of their home to be as eco-friendly as possible. The couple composts, uses only environmentally-safe products, and works hard to remove all toxins from their lives and surroundings. When it came to planning the remodel, it was important that their countertop material met stringent requirements: that it be completely natural, made with no chemical sealers, food-safe, and stain-resistant.
“When Chris brought the Cambria book home, I couldn’t believe such a beautiful product also met all of our environmental criteria,” says Jessica.

And, like all Cambria colors, it never needs sealing or harsh cleaning products. Simple soap and water is all it takes. Because it’s nonporous, Cambria is NSF-certified as a safe food preparation surface. It is also certified by GREENGUARD as a low-emitting product for indoor air quality. The couple chose Cambria’s Newport and Waverton in the guest house bath for a clean, crisp look.
In addition to the product, Jessica and Chris were taken with Cambria’s commitment to sustainability, which matched their own. “I was incredibly impressed with how they conduct themselves,” remarks Chris, “how they reuse water in their own facilities, how they recycle their own materials. It was an easy choice.”
