Three Categories of Ventilation

2 of 8

Happily, that is no longer the case. Kitchen ventilation has moved far beyond one-size-fits-all solutions and falls into three basic categories: downdraft, chimney, and under-cabinet. Beyond that, there are also installation options. A chimney-style hood can be of the wall-mount variety or ceiling-mounted over an island. It can be discreet, such as with downdraft technology and under-cabinet ventilation incorporated into a hearth or cabinet. Or it can be prominently suspended over an island and serve as a gleaming showpiece that anchors the room.
