Style File

1 of 7

The first thing you should do when embarking on any remodel is assemble an inspiration file. Whether it's online (on Cultivate, olioboard.com, pinterest.com, etc.) or on paper, categorize your favorite materials by use—cabinets, flooring, lighting, countertops, and appliances. As you accumulate your images, don't forget to note what it is you like about the image. It's easy to think you’ll never forget, but chances are you will, considering all the details that can exist in a wide shot of an entire kitchen. Was it the decorative hood or the window treatment you liked? Quickly make a comment or circle the specific element on the page. You'll start to see your dream kitchen come together image by image, piece by piece.
