Over the last 20 years, appliances have taken on a new role in the kitchen. These once function-focused items now often bring a sense of style to the overall design, thanks to an array of aesthetic options. Because of this, Americans are now investing in refrigerators more than ever, seeing the value in good looks, not to mention great energy ratings, precision cooling systems, high technology traits and modern design elements that have become integral to our modern lives.

With the holidays approaching, food storage is vital to pulling off family feast preparations, not to mention when the party has ended and you find yourself with an arsenal of leftovers. Fortunately, these top five refrigerators will get you and your leftovers through the holiday season in style and the years to follow.

Sub-Zero Side by Side Built In Refrigerator, $9,560

Known for specializing in luxury features with a focus on aesthetics, Sub-Zero offers a unique built-in ice and water feature that maintains a focus on design without skimping on functionality. The dual refrigeration system ensures that your food stays fresher for longer and the bright interior lighting makes searching for your leftovers easy on the eyes. This side-by-side fridge also uses less energy than a 100-watt light bulb, offering energy saving value that the environment—and your wallet—will thank you for.

Miele Fully Integrated Refrigerator, $6895

The Miele company has long been renowned for its quality, and the fully integrated stainless steel refrigerator shows exactly why. Boasting clean, modern lines while also offering the traditional fridge appearance with a stainless front, this top-of-the-line model fits into your wall space for a seamless appearance in your kitchen. The added feature of extendable storage allows you to hunt for leftovers at the back of the fridge without having to balancing on your tip toes while you wade through stacks of Tupperware. It also provides remote vision, so you can monitor your fridge from afar, taking all the worry out of going away after the holidays.

Samsung Screen Fridge, $3699

With a mid-range price tag and high-end technology, the Samsung Screen Fridge offers modern design and functionality with a contemporary finish. The LCD screen allows you to write notes, view photos, access your Google Calendar and is loaded with useful kitchen apps. Beyond the technology cover, the Screen Fridge offers larger-than-standard storage capacity and comes equipped with extra ice storage for those last minute parties.

Haier Mini Fridge, $115

Pint size and ideal for creating extra refrigerated storage with little out of pocket cost, this Haier Mini Refrigerator allows you to store your holiday leftovers without comprising the space in your full-size fridge. The flat-back design and recessed door handle make it a quiet addition to your pantry, utility room or garage, and the full-width and half-width door storage shelves maximize the capacity, allowing you to store any number of dishes with ease.

Electrolux Drawer Fridge, $2,249

Creating extra refrigerator storage without impacting your kitchen's overall design is simple with the Electrolux integrated refrigerator drawers. Reasonably priced, the drawers can be installed alongside under-counter cabinets and provide a surprising amount of space to accommodate holiday leftovers (each drawer is 24 inches wide and 24 inches deep). The Luxury Glide system allows access with the touch of a finger and the Pure Advantage air filter keeps clean air circulating-- offering both easy access and odor-free storage.

Since I will be renovating a smallish kitchen, the photo's and information provided gave more insight into what is available out there. Thank you

So pleased it was useful advice, happy renovating! Coryanne

My advice is always to invest in the biggest/best fridge in your price range -- I know the feeling of needing a big fridge to feed growing children. There is a growing trend in all fridge/all freezer and I think you are making a wise investment. Coryanne

Thanks fo your reply!

My current thinking is that I would like a "all refrigerator" in the kitchen (that's what the Miele looks like to me) With an "all freezer" in the nearby laundry room. Of course an undercounter ice maker next to the fridge...anyone have any thoughts on this?

All fridge options are very popular, I might suggest investing in an under counter freezer for those quick access moments while also having a family freezer in your pantry. Enjoy the renovation! Coryanne

Love the refrigerator drawer idea. Can I have them built into an island?

Most of the under counter units I have seen are housed on an island. Depending on the size of your space, it sounds ideal. Coryanne

Yes, you can! We are currently having that done in our kitchen remodel. The island will have two fridge drawers just for beverages and fruits for the kids to get themselves.
