Interior designer Trip Haenisch is constantly seeing stars. Not the celestial kind—the A-list variety. His client list is a red carpet Rolodex filled with names like Courteney Cox, Christina Aguilera, William H. Macy and Felicity Huffman, and Cher (yes, Cher!). Despite his glitzy roster, the rooms he designs are anything but. Drawing on personal experiences, Trip says his aesthetic is in "constant metamorphosis." "Creating a collected interior is what I strive for," he says. "I've become more fearless over the years because I realized there is no right or wrong answer when it comes to design."

This organic method of design isn't limited to his approach. Trip is known for his heavy-handed use of natural and organic materials, from custom reclaimed wood islands topped with thick Carrara marble to French oak flooring and backsplashes fashioned from slabs of charcoal Basaltina stone. We sat down with Trip to pick his brain on how to refresh a kitchen without a major overhaul—read on to get a free celebrity-worthy kitchen design consultation of your own.
1. Faucet Upgrade

"The first thing that almost always tops my 'revamp' list is changing the faucets for a new look," Trip says. His faucet of choice? Chrome or nickel-plated fixtures with porcelain fittings, like this double-handle version from Rohl.

2. A New Hue

"Try painting," Trip advises. "It immediately changes the whole atmosphere of a kitchen." He loves a warm dove gray, like Benjamin Moore's Stone Harbor.

3. Hardware Swap

"Replace hardware, pulls, hinges and knobs," Trip suggests. "It's cheap, quick, and easy—who doesn't like that?" For instant sophistication, he recommends simple satin nickel knobs like this one from Rejuvenation.

4. Counter Maneuver

"Switch out the countertop material for a fresh update," he recommends. His pick: neutral but sleek Desert Limestone.

5. Better Backsplash

"Replace the backsplash with porcelain subway tiles," Trip suggests. This white Merola tile is a budget-friendly way to get a high-end look.

"I love industrial-style lighting—lately I've been inspired by the Grammercy Park Hotel," says Trip. Try three industrial cord pendants over a kitchen island.
