The O’Keefe and Merrit stove, vintage 1956, was in perfect condition and had belonged to my client’s parents. When we began the design process, it was clear that the stove was going to play center stage.
Our first design choice was the cabinetry: Shaker doors with bead-board inserts painted white complemented the old stove and guided our design choices. Instead of granite or marble, we chose a Cesarstone that mimicked Carrera marble, and for the backsplash we chose hand-crafted ceramic subway tile. Both the dishwasher front panel and the refrigerator came from Elmira Stoneworks, a company that specializes in new appliances with a vintage twist.
