An oversize island becomes the heart of the home for this young professional couple and their kids. As avid cooks they wanted a kitchen that was easy to use so they put in plenty of storage and splurged on a good range. The modern design creates a bright, inviting space as it opens onto the living/dining as well as the terrace beyond. Ikea cabinets are dressed up with handmade tiles and a huge Corian counter.

Are the wood floors original. If not where are they from? Love the color and pattern.

The parquet floors are original, in the kitchen we installed new flooring (you can see the dividing line between the two next the island, where there is the border around what used to be the end of the floor.)
In order to give it a cohesive feel we stained the flooring, using a minwax stain in 'coffee' color.
