In order to create a kitchen that was more colorful and contemporary, designer Karen Ellentuck incorporated modern eco-friendly materials in this suburban Seattle remodel.

She started by combining the eating area and kitchen, which allowed for a larger island.  At the end of the island she created a round table, then covered the entire island with a recycled glass countertop by Vetrazzo. Taking a cue from some of the blue bits in the countertop, Ellentuck clad the table end’s pedestal with blue mosaic glass tile.  Perimeter countertops feature a coordinating quartz material.  Horizontal grain bamboo cabinets provide more storage thereby minimizing clutter. A mix of lighting, including dropped track lighting, helps create an inviting, colorful kitchen.  “The color isn’t overwhelming, but it pops out of the design which makes the entire space fun to be in,” says Ellentuck.
