My Clients loved everything about their home when they first bought it, except the kitchen.   This 1950’s home in Silverlake, CA had clerestory windows in the kitchen that didn’t allow for upper cabinets ( or so the client thought).

When I first saw the kitchen, I could immediately envision making those windows and beams work with the new kitchen Design. The kitchen was dark, and cramped, and everything about it felt out of scale, it was just a drabby place to be.

Solution:

Space plan room, demo wall in between kitchen and pantry and make one space. Move sink to island counter, lighten up the space by introducing a reflective glass backsplash tile, and White Reflective Ceasar stone counters, and frosted glass with Aluminum  upper cabinets (from IKEA, Upper cabinet boxes are custom to fit IKEA glass door).  

Uniform cabinetry keeps things looking streamline and uncluttered., hidden washer and dryer, hidden ironing board, appliance garage to hide appliances,  Pull out pantry saves space, HORIZONTAL upper cabinets and floating shelves keeps things light and airy and allows for the upper cabinets, that client  thought she couldn’t have.

Enhance windows which are already an important architectural feature of the home by taking backsplash all the way up to windows.

Client picked a white Aga Stove which takes center stage in this Kitchen and adds a timeless appeal to the space. Also a Rohl Apron style sink adds character to this kitchen. 

A mixture of materials is what makes this kitchen work. From the Porcelain tile floors, to the wood cabinetry,to the glass and ceasar stone counters.

Simple shaker style cabinets in a warm wood tone with stainless steel hardware.This Modern Rustic kitchen space features a gorgeous Aga Stove at center stage. Glass backsplash gives reflection and a modern touch , juxtaposed with the rustic industrial posts and beams. Clever Space planning allows for Hidden Washer and Dryer, hidden Ironing board and appliance garage , making this kitchen very functional .
