The kitchen that came with this apartment was made with inexpensive cherry cabinets and speckled gold granite. That was not going to work with our scheme for the rest of the large apartment, which we completely gutted and re-imagined. For the kitchen, we used a straight run of cabinets with a long island instead of an "L" with a short island to maximize counter surface and improve flow. We continued the dark walnut floors from the hallway and crafted sleek new cabinetry of pomelle mahogany panels and mahogany frames with polished black granite counter tops. We used mirror on the backsplash, one of our favorite treatments to brighten up a kitchen while be highly serviceable. Panels of a "Tree of Life" print are used on the Roman shades, banquette and custom bar stools to soften the room and add a touch of elegance.
The bar is tucked away off the media room. Here the leather tile floor comes in but as you open the blind door in the upholstered media room, the eye is dazzled by the sparkling jewel of mirror, black granite and chrome inside.
