Known as “Green Gables”, this historic Victorian house was once a candidate for tear-down before new homeowners decided to rehabilitate it. After years of neglect, it was time to restore the entire home to its original beauty. The kitchen in particular was a major eyesore. Cluttered with old pots, broken fixtures and cracked walls, it was in dire need of a major overhaul. In a new plan conceived by Melichar Architects, the kitchen became the heart and soul of this revived home. Restoring many of the kitchen’s original features was one of the owners’ main objectives. Many artifacts that were found on-site, such as the stone kitchen sink and drainboard, antique china hutch, work table and some existing cabinetry were restored and incorporated into the new kitchen design.
