This kitchen is in an ocean front residence that was built to comply with strict coastal regulations within a modest existing footprint. The kitchen found itself in its original location in open view of the Atlantic Ocean. While the house itself is definitely a beach house in every sense, the owner wished for something darker and structured for the cooking area. The custom millwork is the result of the design collaboration between architect and interior designer. A warm walnut finish is combined with calcutta gold marble countertops that pick up on both the dark hues of the walnut and the beautiful natural light aspects of the surroundings. The attached island counter opens up to the living room and creates an easy informal relationship between the two spaces. All tall storage is tucked out of view, leaving open workspace in direct axis with the fireplace beyond.
