We were commissioned to review the entire First Floor of this Connecticut home and to re-structure the spaces to provide a better flow from space to space.
The homeowners are avid cooks who enjoy entertaining, and who were eager to incorporate nontraditional materials, such as glass block, into the design of the new Kitchen. Sunlight streams through the arched glass-block of the backsplash wall, making the room glow. The sleek stainless steel hood floats above the range adding a sculptural element, while the upper glass-front-and-back cabinets add utility and balance without impeding the flow of light from the glass block. When the sun goes down, recessed lights installed in the exterior soffit illuminate the glass block with a soft glow. Glass block became an architectural element that was featured through-out the First Floor renovation.
