A beautiful lot surrounded by vineyards in the Russian River Valley, initially purchased as an investment. After significant consideration to tear down or rehabilitate, careful assessment was required to determine what investment the property could warrant. Prior to renovation this was a dark, uninviting almost spooky space. The solid walls and the absence of sheet rock required some creativity in hiding the usual plumbing, electrical and heating systems. Please note the copper plumbing pipes to hide electrical conduit. We added skylights, cut open walls, specified new windows to replace cheap metal sliders. The owners are so excited with the outcome, they are considering moving in here and renting out there own much larger main residence. From a design stand point this job was a challenge. It is easy to go "cabin kitsch". It is alot more challenging to consider how to bring some integrity and authenticity to the building while maintaining an understated elegance. We believe to save a building from total teardown, major landfill, this is truly being "green". This is very much in the spirit of the times, this is ZEITGEIST.
