Is there any rule of thumb/design about fixture finish for stainless steel sink?

Most stainless steel sinks have a brushed finish in the body of the sink. This is to avoid the inevitable scratching of a gloss finish.

Other than this, your choice finishes of stainless steel sinks is purely subjective. Your choice should be guided by other features in your kitchen, especially your faucet finish.
