We have picked out a red quartz countertop (!) with a stainless steel backsplash & black-brown cabinets for our L-shaped kitchen. What paint color can be used with a red countertop?!

Congrtulations on having the courage to express your personal style! I have always loved the combination of red with wood stained cabinetry, so I know it will be a great combination! It is important to look at the global picture which includes flooring as well as what is happening in the rooms beyond the kitchen. What comes to mind in this situation is a light shade with the same undertones as the cabinetry, which might be a warm gray or mushroom shade in light to medium tones. I could also see adding something in the yellow family as a warm connection to the red, also nearby on the color wheel and you could tie in the yellow via artwork, window treatments, etc. Be aware of soft/grayed/muted colors as opposed to more saturated colors to avoid competing with the bold red tone.
Buttery yellow would be beautiful! You could also go with a white that has a green/sage undertone! Buttery yellow is my vote! If you are interested in some colorway specifics, let me know!
Cheers!

Make sure you get a sample of the paint before buying a whole gallon. Some greys will tend to take on a purplish color next to red, and red may bring out pink in some beiges. Been there, done that! I also vote for the subtle yellows.
