Congrtulations on having the courage to express your personal style! I have always loved the combination of red with wood stained cabinetry, so I know it will be a great combination! It is important to look at the global picture which includes flooring as well as what is happening in the rooms beyond the kitchen. What comes to mind in this situation is a light shade with the same undertones as the cabinetry, which might be a warm gray or mushroom shade in light to medium tones. I could also see adding something in the yellow family as a warm connection to the red, also nearby on the color wheel and you could tie in the yellow via artwork, window treatments, etc. Be aware of soft/grayed/muted colors as opposed to more saturated colors to avoid competing with the bold red tone.
